Many states have a Department of Rehabilitation (DORS) for helping disabled persons. They provide assistance to find jobs for the disabled, provide training, pay for handicap modifications to home and vehicle if needed also. To check if your state has a similar program, check the state governments web-sites, they may be accepting online applications. Some state health agencies provide medical assistance.
Each county in a state also has programs to help like low cost housing, modifications to the home and vehicles if needed.
Students looking for money to finance their higher education (in college??) have the following options:
1. Scholarships and grants – at times, it depends on the financial status of the student’s family. If the income is above a particular level, the student becomes ineligible for many grants. It also depends on the grades that the student has obtained during his career. Some colleges offer scholarships to students.
2. Student aid – Free application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), Website : http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ . This financial assistance is available through the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Federal Student Aid. Federal student aid covers expenses in school which include tuition and other fees, room rent, food, books, transportation and other . This financial assistance may also help pay for a computer and dependent childcare expenses. Federal Pell Grants are available only to undergraduate students while the Academic Competitiveness Grant depends on the students academic performance. A grant does not have to be repaid.
3. Part time work – Students can take up a part time job in their free time to make money. They can work in restaurants, hotels or any other retail outlet offering flexible timings. They can also work online doing freelance writing, web design assignments.
